Basketball Recap: Valor Academy Comes Up Short

Valor Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 61-29 loss at the hands of the New Designs University Park Cardinals.

Despite the loss, Valor Academy still got an impressive performance from Maliqui Van Arsdale, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Van Arsdale has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times he's played.

New Designs University Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daviandre Davis led the charge by putting up 23 points along with eight steals and six assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least a third of New Designs University Park's points. Nicholas Hambrick was another key player, posting 14 points along with seven assists and five boards.

Valor Academy's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-6. As for New Designs University Park, their victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1.

Valor Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-26 loss against Pacifica on the 3rd. As for New Designs University Park, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Animo Robinson at 5:30 p.m. on January 7th.
