Basketball Game Preview: Jefferson Academy Jaguars vs. Pomona Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Jefferson Academy Jaguars take on the Pomona Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday... The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jefferson Academy has three straight wins, Pomona has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Jefferson Academy is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Arrupe Jesuit: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Jefferson Academy blew Arrupe Jesuit out of the water with a 66-29 final score. The Jaguars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 24 points or more this season.

Jefferson Academy's win back in December of 2024 was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rylin Chichirico, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 18 points and four steals. Chichirico is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Pathak, who posted 11 points in addition to seven assists and six boards.

Jefferson Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, Pomona played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 66-26 loss at the hands of Westminster. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-11.

Jefferson Academy pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37 points. As for Pomona, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
