The Windward Wildcats will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Grand Terrace Titans at 7:30 p.m. on December 4th. Windward knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Grand Terrace likes a good challenge.
Even though Lynwood scored an imposing 81 points on Saturday, Windward still came out on top. Windward was the clear victor by a 101-81 margin over Lynwood. Given Windward's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Lynwood is ranked 79th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Grand Terrace got the win against Citrus Valley on Friday by a conclusive 75-52. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-22.
Grand Terrace's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deisyn Payne led the charge by scoring 25 points along with 5 rebounds. The game was Payne's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reginald Caldwell, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 assists.
Their wins bumped Windward to 5-1 and Lynwood to 5-2.
Everything came up roses for Windward against Grand Terrace in their previous meeting back in January of 2017 as the team secured a 85-57 win. Does Windward have another victory up their sleeve, or will Grand Terrace turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
