The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Chelsea Academy came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Oakcrest is ranked 244th).
Chelsea Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cici Wingate, who scored 11 points. Miriam Pilon was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Chelsea Academy's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-2. As for Oakcrest, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chelsea Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Evergreen Christian at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Adriana Jenkins and Wingate.
