After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Michael's, the Hyde Park Panthers were happy to have found some success on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 54-24 victory over Savio. That 30 point margin sets a new team best for Hyde Park this season.
It was another big night for Knox Riemondi, who scored 23 points along with four steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that he posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Ryan Jones, who scored nine points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Savio lost, one person who can't be blamed is Matthew Blood. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Blood is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last seven games he's played.
Hyde Park's victory bumped their record up to 11-15. As for Savio, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.
Hyde Park will face off against the Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Regents presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Panthers in Texas (the Knights are ranked 397th, while the Panthers are ranked 1006th). As for Savio, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Michael's knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 19 matches -- so hopefully the Eagles like a good challenge.
