Whitehall-Yearling and Buckeye Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Whitehall-Yearling Rams will face off against the Buckeye Valley Barons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Whitehall-Yearling comes in on ten and Buckeye Valley on five.
Last Friday, Whitehall-Yearling earned a 40-31 victory over Columbus School for Girls. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Unicorns are ranked 416th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Whitehall-Yearling's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyeona Myers, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Myers is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Wilson, who posted five points in addition to five boards and three steals.
Whitehall-Yearling smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Buckeye Valley didn't have too much trouble with Bishop Ready on Friday as they won 42-26. That's two games straight that the Barons have won by exactly 16 points.
Buckeye Valley's win came from a few key players Whitehall-Yearling will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Avelina Wagner, who went 6 for 11 en route to 14 points along with seven assists and four steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in February of 2024. Ella Hazelrigg was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.
Buckeye Valley pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.3 points per game. As for Whitehall-Yearling, their record is now 14-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Whitehall-Yearling has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Buckeye Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Whitehall-Yearling might still be hurting after the 60-40 defeat they got from Buckeye Valley in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Whitehall-Yearling avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
