The Barrington Eagles will head out to face off against the North Providence Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Barrington will be strutting in after a win while North Providence will be coming in after a loss.
Barrington will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Woonsocket on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Villa Novans an 18-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Audrey Paxton made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Paxton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Fontaine, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Cora Floriani, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
Barrington hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, North Providence was a bit more limited in their game on Sunday. They came up short against South Kingstown, falling 7-1. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Olivia Geib-Ayala spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, North Providence saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mariana Xavier, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Barrington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for North Providence, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Barrington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. However, it's not like North Providence struggles in that department as they've averaged .469. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Barrington's way against North Providence when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Barrington made off with a 19-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
