Garden Grove recap September 17, 2013
Bolsa Grande moved up to 959 from 1,024 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Garden Grove. The Matadors climbed the ranks as a result of topping Saddleback 39-14.
La Quinta lost to Calvary Chapel 41-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Tommy Duong was a bright spot for the Aztecs, as he ran for 96 yards in the loss.
Santiago's dynamic duo of Ulysses Cruz and Andy Tang proved to be unstoppable against Orange, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cruz threw for 293 yards and 4 touchdowns and Tang had 75 yards receiving. Franklin San Nicolas helped Santiago's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 68 yards.
The Cavaliers' dynamic duo of Cruz and Tang proved tough for the Panthers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Eduardo Perez was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 111 yards as Los Amigos lost to Orange. Jose Olvera also contributed to the rushing game with 78 yards on the ground.
Cruz put up the best numbers in passing as Brandon Croft's team lost to the Panthers.
He was 19-34 with 1 interceptions.
Tang was the best receiver in the league this week as the Cavaliers lost to Orange.
Leading Garden Grove in both passing and receiving yards, Santiago's Cruz and San Nicolas have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-4 quarterback Cruz has thrown for 376 yards this season, while San Nicolas has 11 catches for 229 yards. The Lobos' Olvera leads the league in rushing yards with 196.
Rancho Alamitos led the league in scoring this week by notching 49 points on Rancho Alamitos.
