Peyton Lingo was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. St. Maries is 2-1 when Lingo posts two or more runs, but 0-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Amado Stewert, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Orofino waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Badgers by a score of 8-4.
Orofino also got a great performance from Tyler Zumpe as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Zumpe has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaeger Tondevold, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Blake Barlow was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Orofino's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Maries, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. Maries has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Orofino struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
St. Maries came up short against Orofino when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Lumberjacks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
