The Shelby County Rockets will challenge the Bardstown Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Shelby County turned things around against Spencer County on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Bears by a score of 7-2.
Foster Whisman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Shelby County: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 8-16 otherwise. Whisman was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Shelby County let Caleb Cook and Isaac Voight run wild. Cook went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double, while Voight went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Voight is becoming a predictor of Shelby County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 6-16 when he doesn't).
Meanwhile, Bardstown was able to grind out a solid win over Fort Knox on Tuesday, taking the game 5-1. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.
Like Shelby County, Bardstown also got a great game from a two-way player: Brazen Harman. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Harman has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Lucas Kiser was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Landen Snellen was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Bardstown hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Knox struck out ten times.
Shelby County's win bumped their record up to 10-17. As for Bardstown, their victory bumped their record up to 3-15-1.
Shelby County beat Bardstown 7-3 when the teams last played back in March. Will the Rockets repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
