The Bloomington South Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Seymour Owls at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bloomington South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Bloomington South faced off against Bloomfield on Tuesday. The Panthers came out on top against the Cardinals by a score of 6-3.
Brilee McGlothlin tossed a big game, tossing 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Larkyn Ivey was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Simmons, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Seymour was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Jennings County. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Owls have posted since April 10th.
Phoebe Underwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Taylor Stuckwisch, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Zoe Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Seymour kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jennings County only managed five hits.
Bloomington South pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Seymour, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bloomington South hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Seymour struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bloomington South skirted past Seymour 2-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
