The Dayton Greendevils will take on the Heritage Academy Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dayton has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 3rd.
On Monday, Dayton came up short against Bellevue and fell 9-6.
Meanwhile, Heritage Academy made easy work of Holmes on Monday and carried off an 11-2 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by nine runs or more this season.
Bob Brown made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Heritage Academy's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't). Brown was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Austin Brown looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Heritage Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-8 otherwise.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob Muse, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Heritage Academy is undefeated when Muse posts three or more hits, but 4-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Hunter Boswell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
Heritage Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.6.
Heritage Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Dayton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-21-1.
Dayton suffered a grim 20-0 defeat to Heritage Academy in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Greendevils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
