Avon Lake hasn't had much luck against Midview recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Shoremen will venture away from home to take on the Middies at 4:45 p.m. Avon Lake will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
While Avon Lake's victory against Elyria wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Shoremen had just enough and edged out the Pioneers 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Shoremen in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won four in a row.
Emerson Burgess spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Briana Webster, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Carmen McMinn also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Avon Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Midview was a bit more limited in their game on Monday. They came up short against Steele, falling 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Middies have suffered against the Comets since April 4, 2022.
Midview saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nina Ballachino, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Midview's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Avon Lake, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-7.
Midview's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Avon Lake has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Midview, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Avon Lake's sizable advantage in that area, the Middies will need to find a way to close that gap.
Avon Lake might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Midview in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Shoremen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
