The Ponca Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 27-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cedar Catholic. Ponca was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cedar Catholic apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Ponca saw an underclassman step up: Emerson Ehlers scored eight points along with 14 rebounds and three blocks. Ehlers hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games.
Ponca has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Cedar Catholic, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-7.
Ponca will head out on the road to take on Wynot on Thursday. The timing is sure in Wynot's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Ponca has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. Cedar Catholic will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Elkhorn Valley at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th.
