5A Region IV District 29 recap November 5, 2013
Eagle Pass scaled the state rankings by moving to 595 from 629 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region IV District 29. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Del Rio 10-0.
Alexander added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Laredo LBJ, 28-7. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Bulldogs.
Derek Esparza threw for 258 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Xavione Skaggs was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 168 yards on 26 carries as Alexander defeated Winn.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Marc Lozoya. The Alexander star has 51 catches for 1,029 yards.
The top two teams in 5A Region IV District 29 will face off this week when first place United takes on second place Alexander. The Longhorns beat the Mavericks last week, while Joel Lopez's team bested the Wolves.
The league will see a high scoring game when United and the Bulldogs face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, David Sanchez's team comes in having scored 355 this season, while Alexander has scored 272. The Longhorns scored 62 points last week as they topped Winn.
United led the league in scoring this week by notching 62 points on Eric Villasenor's team. Esparza ran for 46 yards during the win.
