Ida B. Wells is a perfect 10-0 against Cleveland since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Guardians will host the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Ida B. Wells sitting on four straight victories and Cleveland on seven.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Ida B. Wells and McDaniel had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Guardians blew past the Mountain Lions 16-3 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Guardians, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Jackson Poole, who fired off four doubles, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. Those four doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Hammer, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and four RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Ida B. Wells kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Cleveland got the win against Franklin on Wednesday by a conclusive 14-3.
Quinn Renauer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Renauer was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Cleveland got a massive performance out of Steven Rogosin, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Arlo Oetting was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and one run.
Ida B. Wells pushed their record up to 11-6 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Cleveland, their win bumped their record up to 7-8.
Cleveland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Ida B. Wells hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. It's a different story for Cleveland, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Ida B. Wells' hitters?
Everything went Ida B. Wells' way against Cleveland when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Ida B. Wells made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Guardians repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
