Decatur Central and Plainfield are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Hawks will face off against the Quakers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Decatur Central has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Plainfield will come in with 12 straight victories.
Decatur Central saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell 9-6 to Lafayette Jefferson.
Decatur Central got a big performance out of Kaylynn Napier, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Napier has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashyr Lawson, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Plainfield faced Noblesville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Quakers walked away with a 5-0 win over the Millers. Give the Quakers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Plainfield also got a great performance from Sidney Parks as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Parks has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kylie Fish was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Maci Hanlin, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Plainfield's victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Decatur Central, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Decatur Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Plainfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Decatur Central might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Plainfield when the teams last played on Wednesday. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
