Pittston has gone a perfect 10-0 against Crestwood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Comets at 4:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pittston has seven straight victories, Crestwood has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Pittston had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Berwick on Tuesday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 14-3 win. Considering the Patriots have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashton Lepore looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
On the hitting side, Beau Widdick was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Zach Budzak, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Pittston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 14 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Crestwood fell victim to Wyoming Valley West and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 8-0. Comets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Spartans since Tuesday.
Crestwood also got a good showing from Ryan Brown, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brown has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Crestwood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaxson Fedak, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Crestwood's loss dropped their record down to 3-10-1. As for Pittston, their victory bumped their record up to 14-2.
Crestwood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pittston has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .506. It's a different story for Crestwood, though, as they've only averaged .360. Will they be able to contain Pittston's hitters?
Pittston got the 'W' in their previous meeting two weeks ago against Crestwood by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
