Video: Xcellent 25 Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard - September 29Cathedral (Indianapolis) swept through its own tournament last weekend with four 3-0 victories and remains No. 1 atop the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
The victories improved the Fighting Irish to 23-0 on the season. They have won 57 of 64 sets, including 48 of their last 50.
P.K. Yonge (Gainesville, Fla.) defeated a pair of foes handily (150-81) and held onto No. 2. Santa Margarita (Calif.) won three matches, including wins over talent-loaded Huntington Beach (Calif.) and previously highly ranked Aliso Niguel (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and moved to No. 3.
Rounding out the Top 5 are St. Ursula (Toledo, Ohio) and Jesuit (Portland, Ore.), which moved from eighth to fifth.
New to Top 10 this week are Richard (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and preseason No. 1 St. James (Lenexa, Kan.). St. James has 21 consecutive wins since losing its season-opener.
New to the Top 25 this week are Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Buford (Ga.), Bent (Lisle, Ill.), Carroll (Fort Wayne, Ind.), North (Edmond, Okla.) and Novi (Mich.). Four teams from California fell out of the Top 25 just this week.
Two major tournaments featuring several Top 25 teams are in the spotlight this weekend – the ASICS Tournament at Mother McAuley in Chicago and Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.

8. (11) St. James Academy (Lenexa, Kan.), 21-1 The Thunder handed Nixa (Mo.) its first loss of the season in the semifinals of the Blue Springs Valley Tournament, then beat 19-4 Howell (St. Charles, Mo.) in the final to run their win streak to 21.
9. (10) Parkland (Allentown, Pa.), 13-0Parkland has 40 wins in a row.
10. (19) Richard (Ann Arbor, Mich.), 30-0The Fighting Irish won another five matches and stayed undefeated.
11. (13) Xavier College Prep (Phoenix), 13-1Xavier defeated Chandler (Ariz.) and Gilbert (Ariz.) last week to make it four in a row.

22. (24) Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.), 22-1Dorman avenged its only loss of season with 2-1 win over St. Joseph's (Greenville), then blanked Riverside (Greer) and Mann (Greenville).
23. (9) Yorktown (Ind.), 23-1After running its win streak to 23, Yorktown lost to 17-4 Central (Muncie).
24. (NR) Buford (Ga.), 30-0The Wolves have one senior and have lost just one set since Aug. 20.
25. (25) Sacred Heart (Louisville), 22-4Sacred Heart bounced back from a loss to No. 17 Torrey Pines with 3-0 wins over Providence (Clarksville, Ind.) and crosstown rivals Atherton and Holy Cross.
