The Sacred Heart Crusaders will take on the Resurrection Catholic Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sacred Heart is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Sacred Heart was able to grind out a solid victory over Perry Central, taking the game 6-3. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Braylon Graham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Wyatt Wiest was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelly Crimmins, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Resurrection Catholic nor Lumberton made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Eagles fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 2-1. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Resurrection Catholic also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Wyatt Schnoor gave up two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits.
On the hitting side, Resurrection Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Philip Lachaussee, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double. That double was Lachaussee's first of the season.
Resurrection Catholic's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-16. As for Sacred Heart, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.
Resurrection Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sacred Heart hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. It's a different story for Resurrection Catholic, though, as they've only averaged .255. Will they be able to contain Sacred Heart's hitters?
Sacred Heart came out on top in a nail-biter against Resurrection Catholic in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 11-10. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
