Cape Fear is 10-0 against South View since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Cape Fear Colts will head out on the road to take on the South View Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Cape Fear focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday.
Cape Fear fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Jack Britt but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to the Buccaneers. Cape Fear's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Mehakai Coleman put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 21 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Geronimo Sanchez, who scored two points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, South View was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 50-45 to Gray's Creek. South View has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Chase Evans, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Anthony Farrior was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Cape Fear's record is now 4-7. As for South View, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Cape Fear have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 37.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like South View struggles in that department as they've made 38.4% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Cape Fear beat South View 52-41 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was South View's Raylan Mesa-mclucas, who scored 22 points along with five steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Cape Fear to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
