Basketball Game Preview: Franklin Cougars vs. Midland Legacy Rebels

The Franklin Cougars are taking a road trip to challenge the Midland Legacy Rebels at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Franklin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.

Franklin can't be too worried about heading out to take on Midland Legacy: they just beat Pebble Hills at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, Franklin made off with a 63-62 victory over Pebble Hills. The win was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on three straight.

Franklin got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Allison De La O out in front who went 9 of 19 en route to 25 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave De La O a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Balsiger, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Franklin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Midland Legacy unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were dealt a 78-26 loss at the hands of Frenship. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the Tigers are ranked 15th).

Midland Legacy's defeat dropped their record down to 19-13. As for Franklin, their win bumped their record up to 21-9.

Franklin strolled past Midland Legacy in their previous matchup back in February of 2021 by a score of 55-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Franklin since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
