Wekiva can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent game on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Jones 53-17 on the road. With Wekiva ahead 30-8 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Wekiva found their leader in underclassman Senaia Asanya, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Asanya has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Bell, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lake Minneola walked away with it. They snuck past the Eagles with a 62-56 victory on Monday. The win was nothing new for Lake Minneola as they're now sitting on five straight.
Lake Minneola's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Saunders, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 steals. Wekiva's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points per game. As for Lake Minneola, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7.
Wednesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Wekiva have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 48.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Lake Minneola struggles in that department as they've made 38.1% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wekiva strolled past the Hawks when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 60-42. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Lake Minneola's Patricia Casimir, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Wekiva still be able to contain Casimir? There's only one way to find out.
