The Longmeadow Lancers will venture away from home to take on the Taconic Thunder at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Longmeadow has four straight victories, Taconic has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Thursday, Longmeadow was able to grind out a solid win over Pittsfield, taking the game 7-2.
Isabella Blue spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Camryn Schrager, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Charlotte Kasprzak also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Taconic lost 24-12 to Hoosac Valley on Tuesday.
Ella Stodden was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Mollie Crawford was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Taconic's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Longmeadow, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
Taconic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Longmeadow has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Taconic, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Longmeadow's sizable advantage in that area, the Thunder will need to find a way to close that gap.
