Even though the Southmont Mounties scored an imposing 56 points on Thursday, the Tri-West Hendricks Bruins still came out on top. Tri-West Hendricks walked away with a 68-56 win over the Mounties. Given Tri-West Hendricks' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Mounties are ranked 307th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tri-West Hendricks' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drew Miller led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six assists and two steals. Miller hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Robertson, who scored 19 points.
Despite the loss, Southmont still got an impressive performance from Evan Watson, who scored 19 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Watson has scored all season. Hayden Hess was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight assists and two steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Tri-West Hendricks and bumps their season record up to 12-5. As for Southmont, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tri-West Hendricks will challenge the Artesians at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Martinsville has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 16. As for Southmont, they will head out on the road to face off against the Wolves at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Parke Heritage will be looking to keep their nine-game home win streak alive.
