If the Sahuaro Cougars were feeling good off their 54-19 takedown of the Canyon del Oro Dorados last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Sahuaro was dealt a 68-37 defeat at the hands of Salpointe Catholic on Tuesday. Sahuaro has not had much luck with Salpointe Catholic recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Despite the loss, Sahuaro still got an impressive performance from Kristen Valdez, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Salpointe Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Taliyah Henderson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Allison Even, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Sahuaro has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-7 record this season. As for Salpointe Catholic, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sahuaro will square off against Pueblo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Pueblo is ranked 57th, while Sahuaro is ranked 56th). As for Salpointe Catholic, they will head out on the road to square off against Cienega at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cienega and Salpointe Catholic are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
