Softball Game Preview: Orange Panthers vs. La Quinta Aztecs

Orange hasn't had much luck against La Quinta recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Panthers will welcome the Aztecs at 3:00 p.m. La Quinta took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Orange, who comes in off a win.

Orange made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Estancia, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 14-0 shutout on Friday.

Scarlett Poitra made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-5. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madyson Valerio, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Liliana Nunez, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Orange always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Estancia only posted an OBP of .059.

Meanwhile, La Quinta came up short against Loara on Wednesday and fell 6-2. The Aztecs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Raellie Faatuga made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple.

Orange's victory bumped their record up to 2-9. As for La Quinta, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Orange took their win against La Quinta in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 19-11 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Aztecs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
