Chiefland is 0-3 against the Wildcats since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Chiefland Indians will face off against the Wildwood Wildcats at TBD. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Chiefland rose to the challenge on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 55-34 margin over the Bears. The win made it back-to-back wins for Chiefland.
Chiefland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laila Ingram, who scored 13 points along with four steals. Ingram is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Nyasia Bivins was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wildwood entered their tilt with the Bulldogs with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Wildwood blew past the Bulldogs 70-48. Given Wildwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 159th), the result last Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wildwood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trinidy Harris, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Harris has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Brown, who scored 12 points along with six steals.
Chiefland is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-12 record this season. As for Wildwood, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Wednesday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Brianna Bell and Harris. Bell has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 7.3 points, 5.4 steals, and 3.2 rebounds. For her part, Harris has averaged 16.8 points, 3.2 steals, and 2.4 assists.
Chiefland was taken down by the Wildcats 66-28 in their previous matchup back in February of 2017. Can Chiefland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
