The Carmichaels Mighty Mikes will face off against the Union Area Scotties at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Carmichaels is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let West Greene get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Mighty Mikes' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Carmichaels let Carys McConnell and Ali Jacobs run wild. McConnell went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Jacobs went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Jacobs has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Ke'Lani Chun, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Carmichaels kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Union Area made easy work of Jefferson-Morgan on Friday and carried off a 15-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Scotties.
Mia Preuhs was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Irelyn Fisher was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Olivia Benedict, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Carmichaels' record now sits at 16-0. As for Union Area, their record is now 18-2.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carmichaels hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. However, it's not like Union Area struggles in that department as they've averaged .406. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carmichaels couldn't quite finish off Union Area in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 and fell 10-8. Can the Mighty Mikes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
