Softball Recap: Northwest's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

After a string of seven wins, Northwest's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 16-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Symmes Valley Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 on April 2nd.

Mollyann Runyon was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Karleigh South was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Northwest's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Symmes Valley, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-1.

Northwest and Symmes Valley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Mohawks will square off against South Gallia at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (107 vs. 666). Meanwhile, Symmes Valley (ranked 32nd) will meet Portsmouth West (ranked 254th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
