South Harrison and Tygarts Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The South Harrison Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. South Harrison is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
South Harrison won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They were outmatched by Wirt County at home and fell 64-35.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Adalee Wright, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Emily Parks, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Tygarts Valley strolled past Notre Dame with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 54-39.
It was another big night for Summer Lewis-Smith, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Kailen Yokum was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with four steals.
South Harrison's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Tygarts Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-10 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: South Harrison have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Tygarts Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
South Harrison didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Tygarts Valley in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 51-45 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Harrison since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
