It was a good run, but the Wabash Apaches unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. Their tough 72-46 defeat to Marion might stick with them for a while. Wabash found out winning isn't easy when your three-point shooting is a whole 32% worse than the opposition.
Defeat or not, Wabash got some senior leadership from Grant Ford who scored 15 points along with 6 rebounds and Izaak Wright who scored 15 points. Wright scored a full 32.6% of Wabash's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kaden Vogel was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 6 rebounds.
Jaymen Townsend was his usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with 5 rebounds for Marion. The matchup was Townsend's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tim Jones, who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds.
Wabash's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for Marion, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Wabash will head out on the road to face off against Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marion will be home for the holidays to greet Kokomo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Kokomo's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
