Everything went their way against the Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs on Saturday as they made off with a 53-28 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matches by 21 points or more this season.
Lainee Nein was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Abigail Dille, who posted 13 points and five boards.
Sedgwick County was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Haxtun only six assists.
Several Fightin' Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bobbi Starkebaum, who put up five points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Starkebaum has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Katiegh Cody, who had four points.
Sedgwick County is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points over those games. Haxtun has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season.
Sedgwick County will square off against Simla at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Simla knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Sedgwick County likes a good challenge.
