Softball Recap: Estancia Wins Going Away Against Mccurdy

Estancia won the last time they faced McCurdy and things went their way on Saturday too. The Bears were the clear victors by a 20-1 margin over the Bobcats. Considering the Bears have won five matchups by more than 15 runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Jhenna Valencia made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Karina Villafuerte was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Lucia Chavez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

Estancia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .885. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McCurdy only posted an OBP of .364.

The win made it two in a row for Estancia and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for McCurdy, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Estancia and McCurdy will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Bears will take on rival Pecos at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, McCurdy is set to face off against their familiar foe Mora at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
