Highland hasn't had much luck against Munster recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Trojans will head out to challenge the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Highland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Highland is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Andrean on Monday. They came up short against the Fighting 59ers, falling 7-1.
Highland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Evie Rivera also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Munster waltzed into their match on Monday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. Everything went their way against the Brickies as they made off with an 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Kaylee O'Connell made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caroline Wendlinger, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Miah Almaguer, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.
Munster lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in four consecutive games.
Munster pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Highland, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Highland hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Munster struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Highland suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Munster in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
