Capital is 2-8 against Mountain View since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Golden Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Mavericks at 6:30 p.m.
Capital lost 8-1 to Middleton on Thursday.
Caden Werner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Mountain View nor Borah made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Mavericks put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 7-1 victory. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.
Mountain View also got a great performance from Owen Perry as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Perry posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Preston Flournoy was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Carson Lupton, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Mountain View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Mountain View has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Capital, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Capital has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Capital was able to grind out a solid victory over Mountain View in their previous matchup back in March, winning 9-4. Do the Golden Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mavericks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
