The Sunnyslope Vikings stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Pinnacle, posting a 72-41 victory at home. While fans of Sunnyslope might be used to big wins, the 31-point margin marked the team's biggest win yet this season.
Sunnyslope found their leader in underclassman Rider Portela, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Portela hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was John Mattingly, who scored 17 points.
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kareem Alkhalifa, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Domonic Okeke was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Sunnyslope has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Pinnacle, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.
Sunnyslope will challenge the Mountain Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Mountain Ridge: they have been struggling with six straight losses at home, while the Vikings have snatched up five consecutive wins on the road. Pinnacle will take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in O'Connor's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
