Fort Meade is 8-2 against Mulberry since March of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Miners will challenge the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Fort Meade 3.7, Mulberry 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Fort Meade took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Frostproof 5-3. The Miners haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Owen Harrell and DeMarion Abrams made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Harrell didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Abrams struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Harrell scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Abrams scored a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Noe Jaramillo was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Andrew Brooks was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Fort Meade hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Frostproof struck out 13 times.
Meanwhile, Mulberry entered their tilt with Victory Christian Academy on Monday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Storm a 4-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly four runs.
Justin Williams looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Mulberry let Griffin Cline and Hayden Wyatt run wild. Cline went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run, while Wyatt went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nic Partridge, who scored a run and stole two bases.
Fort Meade pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Mulberry, their record now sits at 16-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fort Meade has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mulberry struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fort Meade came up short against Mulberry when the teams last played back in March, falling 8-3. Can the Miners avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
