Softball Recap: Cupertino Has No Trouble Against Macdonald

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Prospect, Cupertino was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They blew past the MacDonald Condor 14-4. Considering the Pioneers have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cupertino let Talitha Vaughn and Shelby Apostolo run wild. Vaughn went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Apostolo went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave Vaughn a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Purani Muthuvedi, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cupertino kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Cupertino has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for MacDonald, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cupertino will head out to challenge Santa Clara at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season. As for MacDonald, they will venture away from home to face off against Lynbrook at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Condor are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
