They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 58-49 loss to Somerset Academy - Canyons. While losing is never fun, Somerset College Prep Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while Somerset Academy - Canyons is ranked 42nd).
Somerset College Prep Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaeley Ciceron, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Ciceron is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Laylah Dawkins was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Somerset Academy - Canyons was led to victory by Alana Pinnock and Alanna Fabrini. Pinnock scored ten points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Fabrini scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Fabrini pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Delanie Doty, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Somerset College Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Somerset College Prep Academy will be playing at home against Port St. Lucie at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Port St. Lucie is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, they will head out on the road to face off against Pine Crest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Pine Crest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 back in December of 2023.
