The University Titans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 11th straight loss. They suffered a tough 70-46 loss at the hands of Father Lopez. The matchup was a close 33-30 at the break, but unfortunately for University it sure didn't stay that way.
Aidon Amoah and Ernie Centeno certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Amoah dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Centeno scored 18 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Centeno has scored all season.
Even though they lost, University were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. This was only their 11th loss (out of 12 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Father Lopez's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jonathan Powell, who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Powell hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Sam Downey, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
University's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-17. As for Father Lopez, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. University will challenge Flagler Palm Coast at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Father Lopez, they will head out on the road to square off against Spruce Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Spruce Creek has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
