Holy Name has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. Even though Holy Name has not done well against Padua Franciscan recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Holy Name pulled ahead with a 50-49 photo finish over Padua Franciscan.
Holy Name can attribute much of their success to Honesti Williams, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Maryelise Rispoli, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Brooklyn's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. The game between Brooklyn and Wickliffe wasn't particularly close, with Brooklyn falling 44-29.
Ashlyn Dyson put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. The match was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Nieves, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Holy Name's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Brooklyn, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-6.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Holy Name have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 37.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Brooklyn, though, as they've been averaging only 25.4 rebounds per game.
