The Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles will head out to square off against the Zionsville Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Guerin Catholic has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Guerin Catholic's last matchup with Roncalli could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles came up short against the Royals, falling 15-3. The Golden Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Izzy Phillips was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Zionsville had just enough and edged out Western Boone 7-6 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Stars: they've now won eight in a row.
Liv Reid and Kristin Evers dominated on the mound. Reid pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits, while Evers pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Evers has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Zionsville let Maddie Benedict and Abbie Geib run wild. Benedict went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI, while Geib went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Geib has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Kohler, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Zionsville's record is now 15-3. As for Guerin Catholic, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Guerin Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Zionsville struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Guerin Catholic suffered a grim 17-3 defeat to Zionsville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
