Kings Mountain's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against South Point as Kings Mountain made off with a 6-0 victory. The Mountaineers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
Maddie Huffman made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Kayla McSwain was incredible, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Anna Wooten was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Cherryville unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 13-3 to East Gaston. Ironmen fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Warriors since on Tuesday.
Alexis McSwain made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
Even though they lost, Cherryville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Kings Mountain's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cherryville, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kings Mountain has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .497. However, it's not like Cherryville struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
