Belmont is 0-10 against Roybal since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Belmont Sentinels will head out on the road to face off against the Roybal Titans at 4:00 p.m. Hopefully Belmont focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Wednesday.
Belmont struggled with assists on Wednesday (Downtown Magnets had 1400% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Belmont was beaten by Downtown Magnets 69-35. While losing is never fun, Belmont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1117th, while Downtown Magnets is ranked 312th).
Belmont's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Semaj Norwood, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Jordan Martin who scored 9 points along with 5 steals. Martin scored a full 25.7% of Belmont's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Roybal pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 68-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Franklin. Roybal has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Denzell Ingram put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 22 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. The game was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Samuel Kunga, who scored 11 points.
Robert F. Kennedy Community's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Belmont's loss dropped theirs to 1-3.
Belmont was dealt a bruising 82-35 loss at the hands of Roybal when the teams last played back in January. Can Belmont avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
