There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. We'll tackle that and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Picayune's 42 - 35 win over Gautier last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Jortin Raine. Raine earned four touchdowns and 310 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Raine as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
On paper, the match between John Curtis Christian (1st in the power rankings) and Archbishop Rummel (4th) looked as though it might be one of the more compelling ones, but things did not play out that way on the field. John Curtis Christian breezed past Archbishop Rummel with a final score of 44 - 21. Archbishop Rummel had come in flaunting an aggressive defense allowing an average of only 12 points per game, but that obviously didn't scare off John Curtis Christian.
Movin on Up
East St. John will have a better view of things this week after its strong showing last week propelled it five spots up the power rankings. That was the biggest rise of the week. It blew past Thibodaux 48 - 21. Junior Sean Shelby was a big part of the win as his strong performance led the charge (he threw for 352 yards and four touchdowns).
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Edna Karr (3rd in the power rankings) and Easton (2nd). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. Easton and Edna Karr both have plenty of landslide victories under their belts (Easton with five and Edna Karr with six), but only one can come away triumphant this week. We'll find out who that is soon.
