Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Liberty Blue Jays walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 42-28 win over Blue Springs South on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for Liberty who now have three in a row.
Jaxon Hicks had a dynamite game for Liberty, rushing for 205 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry, and also throwing for five yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Christian Kuchta, who rushed for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ayden Wilhelm, who threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendrick Hawkins jr, who rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown.
Liberty's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Blue Springs South and 3-7 Raymore-Peculiar (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 31.6% over those games). As for Blue Springs South, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-9.
Liberty will head out on the road to face off against Liberty North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Liberty North's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last nine contests. Blue Springs South does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
