Basketball Recap: Golden View Classical Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Ascent Classical Academy last Monday, Golden View Classical Academy came back down to earth. The Golden View Classical Academy Sentinels were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 30-29 to the Denver Jewish Day Tigers. The Sentinels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

Golden View Classical Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gianna Acocella, who posted eight points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Le, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Golden View Classical Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Denver Jewish Day's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaitlin Schatz, who had 13 points and seven steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Schatz has scored at least a third of Denver Jewish Day's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bayla Milobsky, who scored seven points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Golden View Classical Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season. Denver Jewish Day's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6.

Coincidentally, Golden View Classical Academy and Denver Jewish Day will both be playing Loveland Classical the next time they take the court. Denver Jewish Day will head out to face Loveland Classical at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Golden View Classical Academy will host them at 4:00 p.m. on February 19th.
