The Lanier Poets will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Tallassee Tigers at 5:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for Lanier: they have been struggling with seven straight losses at home, while Tallassee has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
Lanier suffered their biggest loss since November 16, 2023 on Friday. They took a serious blow against Carver Montgomery, falling 46-13. While losing is never fun, Lanier can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 335th, while Carver Montgomery is ranked 129th).
Meanwhile, Tallassee fought the good fight in their overtime game against Beauregard on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 44-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hornets. Tallassee has not had much luck with Beauregard recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Lanier's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Tallassee, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-7.
Things could have been worse for Lanier, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 48-32 loss to Tallassee in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Can Lanier avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
