West Elk is 8-2 against Caldwell since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The West Elk Patriots will head out on the road to take on the Caldwell Bluejays at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, West Elk came up short against Udall and fell 45-33. West Elk has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Caldwell's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by South Haven at home and fell 56-28. Caldwell has not had much luck with South Haven recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the loss, Caldwell saw an underclassman step up: Ella Risley scored 11 points along with four steals.
West Elk's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Caldwell, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with that defeat, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for West Elk against Caldwell in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 64-24 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Elk since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
